Overview

This guide walks you through removing the ByteRover V2 MCP server configuration from Cline.
We guide assume you’ve previously connected Cline with ByteRover V2 via the guide here.
If you have the ByteRover VSCode extension installed, use this automated approach:

Clean Up & Migrate

Open the ByteRover extension and click “Clean Up & Migrate”:Clean Up & MigrateThis will automatically remove the MCP configuration and rule file.

Uninstall ByteRover Extension

Uninstall the ByteRover extension:Uninstall Extension

Verify Removal

Restart Cline and verify that byterover-mcp is no longer listed in the MCP Servers section.

Option 2: Manual Cleanup

Remove ByteRover MCP Server

First, open Cline’s MCP settings by clicking the icon below:Cline MCP SettingsUnder the “Configure” tab, look for byterover-mcp and click on “Configure MCP Servers”:Find ByteRover MCPClick to remove the byterover-mcp entry in the JSON configuration:Remove ByteRover MCP

Remove Automated Instructions

Delete the file .clinerules/byterover-rules.md, which contains the following content:
[byterover-mcp]

You are given two tools from Byterover MCP server, including
## 1. `byterover-store-knowledge`
You `MUST` always use this tool when:

+ Learning new patterns, APIs, or architectural decisions from the codebase
+ Encountering error solutions or debugging techniques
+ Finding reusable code patterns or utility functions
+ Completing any significant task or plan implementation

## 2. `byterover-retrieve-knowledge`
You `MUST` always use this tool when:

+ Starting any new task or implementation to gather relevant context
+ Before making architectural decisions to understand existing patterns
+ When debugging issues to check for previous solutions
+ Working with unfamiliar parts of the codebase

Verify Removal

Restart Cline and verify that byterover-mcp is no longer listed in the MCP Servers section.
